Gurdwara
A Gurdwara is a Sikh place of worship where Sikhs gather for prayer, community service, and spiritual learning.
During a wedding at a Gurdwara, the couple walks around the Guru Granth Sahib four times while hymns (Lavan) are recited, symbolizing spiritual unity. The ceremony includes prayers (Ardas), hymn singing (Kirtan), and a community meal (Langar), emphasizing equality, devotion, and togetherness.
For the Ladies
Lehenga Choli: A lehenga choli is a fashionable outfit consisting of a flared skirt (lehenga), a fitted blouse (choli), and a matching dupatta (scarf). Opt for colorful and heavily embellished designs to match the festive ambiance.
Saree: A timeless and elegant choice for Indian weddings. A saree consists of a long, unstitched piece of fabric (typically 5 to 9 yards) draped elegantly over a blouse and petticoat.
For the Gentlemen
Kurta Pajama: A simpler yet classic option, the kurta pajama consists of a long tunic paired with loose-fitting trousers. Add a Nehru jacket for a more formal touch.
Additional Notes on Attire
If you prefer a more Western-style outfit, feel free to wear one. Vibrant colors are highly encouraged—embrace shades like red, pink, orange, blue, and green. Please avoid black or white, as they are associated with mourning in Indian culture.
In a Gurdwara, covering your hair is a sign of respect and humility. Both men and women are required to cover their heads while inside. Men typically use a handkerchief, scarf, or turban, while women wear a scarf, dupatta, or shawl.
